16 stations connecting Vancouver, Richmond + Vancouver International Airport

At a length of 19 km, the Canada Line, Lower Mainland’s newest fully automated metro service, is the country’s first direct rail service to a metropolitan international airport.  It has been the largest and most complex infrastructure project ever undertaken in Canada.

The Canada Line connects downtown Vancouver with both central Richmond and Vancouver International Airport—linking expanding residential, business, health care, educational and other centres in the region—and adding transit capacity equivalent to 10 major road lanes. The Canada Line expands the region’s other two rapid transit lines at Waterfront Station and major east-west transit services, increasing the transit network by more than a third in one of the busiest and growing corridors in Metro Vancouver.

After 4 years of construction, the Canada Line opened to the public on August 17th, 2009, more than three months ahead of schedule and on budget.
